13 Key Points of Emerging New Technologies
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), through the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (Observatory), is developing tools and promoting best practices to strengthen IP protection.
To enhance the Observatory’s work on emerging technologies, in 2019, an Expert Group was established to assess the impact of technology in general (Impact of Technology Expert Group).
From April 2019 to the present, several workshops and online meetings have been organised, with the active contribution of the “IP Infringement and Enforcement Tech Watch” Group of experts. This group developed a specialized methodology to analyze 6 different technologies.
From discussions, workshops, and other productive interactions, 13 key points on emerging technologies were identified, which you can read in the following documents (page 6, executive summary).
The Study, which analyzes new technologies contributing significantly to a better understanding of the complexity of emerging and disruptive technologies, examines the social, economic, and societal impacts of these technologies, with particular focus on current and future protection, infringement, and enforcement of Intellectual Property, and adds a unique holistic perspective of sustainability to its analyses.
