World Intellectual Property Day 2023 – EUIPO Study Titled “Women in Design”
A new study by the EUIPO, in celebration of World Intellectual Property Day 2023, reveals that only 24% of designers in the EU are women.
The “Women in Design” study was conducted for the first time by the EUIPO, focusing on female designers and the gender gap in intellectual property. It uses data from registered Community Designs and Models (RCDs) and Eurostat statistics.
The analysis is based on 670,000 designs and models and 210,000 designers, with information regarding the designer’s name from EUIPO’s databases (43% of RCD registrations) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Gender Names Database.
