Ahead of World Cancer Day (February 4), the European Patent Office (EPO) has just published a new study, which reveals that innovation in the fight against cancer has increased by 70% between 2015 and 2021, as measured by the number of international patent families (IPF).
Additionally, the EPO has launched a new free online platform,“Technologies Combatting Cancer”, developed by EPO experts in collaboration with 10 national patent offices across Europe. This platform presents over 130 data sets across four key areas:
- Prevention and early detection
- Diagnosis
- Treatments
- Wellness and post-care
The study found that more than 140,000 inventions related to cancer treatment have been made publicly available through patent documents in the past 50 years.
