OBI Seminar Today in Chania: Protection of Patents at National and European Levels

The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), in collaboration with the European Patent Office (www.epo.org) and the Technical University of Crete (https://www.tuc.gr/el/archi) organised a specialized seminar titled “Protection of Patents at National and European Levels,” which took place today in Chania, at the Manousos Manousakis G2.1 Hall of the Technical University of Crete.

Greetings on behalf of the Foundation were delivered by Prof. Michalis Zervakis, Rector of the Technical University of Crete, and Prof. Konstantinos-Alkettas Ougrinis, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of the Technical University of Crete. The OBI was represented by Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, General Director of the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, who gave a greeting online.

The seminar began with a presentation by Mr. Ludovikos Vanerk, Mechanical Engineer and Examiner at OBI, who explained the protection of industrial property in Greece with patents using clear examples.

Mr. Stefan Luginbuehl, Head of the Department for IP Lab – Patent Policy at the European Patent Office (EPO), took the floor online and presented the key aspects of the Union Patent in his talk titled “Unitary Patent and the European Patent.”

Next, Dr. Giorgos Asimopoulos, Chemist and Head of the OBI Regional Office in Thessaloniki, spoke about technological information from industrial property titles and the exploitation of patents. Dr. Efimia Panayiotidou, Lawyer at the Technology Transfer Office of the Technical University of Crete, informed the academic and broader online audience about the services offered by the Technology Transfer Unit of the university in protecting the inventions of researchers.

The session concluded with a Q&A, allowing the interested audience to gain insights from the expert speakers.
