A seminar on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and the support of authorities in recognizing counterfeit products was successfully held in Corfu on November 14, 2024.
The specialized training seminar, hosted at the historic Ionian Parliament building, was organized by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands, and EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). Its aim was to inform enforcement authorities about recognizing counterfeit and imitation products that infringe on the intellectual property rights of legitimate company holders.
The seminar was coordinated by Mrs. Rania Zacharopoulou, Head of the OBI Communication Department and Project Manager of the Authenticity Program for Greece, who delivered the opening remarks on behalf of OBI.
The Municipality of Corfu was represented by Mr. N. Vradi, Deputy Mayor for Administration, Planning & European Programs, and Mr. N. Chirdaris, Deputy Mayor for Tourism, External Relations, and Entrepreneurship of Northern Corfu.
The seminar featured the following sessions:
📌 Training on the IP Enforcement Portal, conducted by Mrs. Evangelia Stavropoulou, EUIPO Observatory European Union Intellectual Property Office
📌Cases of smuggling and illegal trade of goods presented by Mr. Spyros Peristeris, Head of the Data Management, Statistical Processing & E-Commerce Oversight Division.
📌 Mr. Nikos Prentoulis Partner at Prentoulis Gerakini Law Firm, discussed counterfeit tobacco products.
📌Mrs. Villy Davilla, LL.M., Dr. Eleni Papakonstantinou & Associates Law Firm analyzed examples of product counterfeiting from the LEGO Group.
📌Mr. Manos Tavlas, Legal Advisor on Intellectual Property at LOUIS VUITTON MALLETIER, presented examples of counterfeiting in Louis Vuitton products.
📌Finally, Mr. George Papadogoulas, Lecturer and PhD Candidate at UNIWA, Professional Whisky Taster, informed the audience about the illegal production and distribution of alcoholic beverages.
