A bilateral meeting between the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) and a delegation of the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA).

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, a working meeting took place at the headquarters of the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) with a delegation from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA).

The heads of the delegations, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, General Director of OBI, and Mr. Danlu Li, Deputy Commissioner of CNIPA, welcomed the cooperation between the two national offices, which dates to 2017, and emphasized the importance of Industrial Property as a strategic tool for development.

Ms. Katerina Margellou, Deputy General Director of OBI and Director of Legal Support, provided an overview of the national Industrial Property system and the incentives for promoting innovation. During the meeting, the latest developments in the IP laws of each country were presented, with a focus on modernizing the system for protecting industrial property rights and enhancing innovation.

Mr. Stratos Koutivas, Director of Title Control, presented the “THALES” artificial intelligence system developed by OBI to accelerate the process of granting patents as a best practice for national offices. Regarding the dissemination of technological information to the public, Ms. Panagiota Papapostolou, Director of Technological Information, presented the tools and structures used for information dissemination, the activities of OBI’s regional offices across the country, and the newly established innovation support unit, which aims to connect the research ecosystem with productive sectors.

The two offices agreed to extend the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2019, adding new areas of cooperation.
