Training seminar of the IP Enforcement Authorities in Argostoli, 3.4.2025

The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), within the framework of its responsibilities, participates in the Authenticities Program of the EUIPO – European Union Intellectual Property Office and collaborates with the Municipality of Argostoli in a series of actions aimed at certifying Argostoli as an authentic city (Authenticity Argostoli).

With the support of the Municipality of Argostoli, a specialized seminar was successfully organized on April 3rd at the Argostoli Municipal Theater “Kefalos.”

The goals of the seminar were to train Greek IP Enforcement Authorities in the use of the database developed by the European Observatory (IP Enforcement portal), to train the Authorities with company representatives on identifying counterfeit or imitated products, and to present methods of detecting the illegal production and marketing of alcoholic beverages.

The seminar began with a greeting from the General Director of OBI, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, delivered to the audience by the OBI Head of the Communication Dept  and project manager for the Authenticities Program in Greece,Mrs. Rania Zacharopoulou, who then moderated the event.

A greeting on behalf of the Municipality of Argostoli was given by the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Spyros Samouris, who wished success to all the relevant actions for the benefit of the locality, consumers, and visitors to the island.

Mr. Spiridon Peristeris, Ph.D., Head of the Data Management, Statistical Processing & E-Commerce Supervision Department, Inter-Service Market Control Unit (D.I.M.E.A.) of the Ministry of Development, spoke about the operational activities of D.I.M.E.A. Meanwhile, Mrs. Evangelia Stavropoulou (EUIPO staff member) spoke online about training on the IPEnforcement Portal.

Presentations for the beneficiaries were made for the following companies:

✔️Illegal production and distribution of alcoholic beverages  by Mr. George Papadogoulas, Lecturer, University of West Attica.

A constructive discussion followed between the authorities and the speakers, as well as the exchange of successful case studies and practices.
