International Registration of Industrial Designs: Suspension of the Implementation of the Hague Act (1960) of the Hague Agreement

Following the decision of the Assembly of the Hague Union at its 44th session in Geneva at the World Intellectual Property Organisation on July 9-17, 2024, the implementation of the Hague Act (1960) of the Hague Agreement will be suspended as of January 1, 2025.

From this date onward, international applications for the registration of industrial designs will be submitted exclusively under the Geneva Act (1999), which was ratified by Law 5051/2023 (Government Gazette A’ 154/18.09.2023), and not under the Hague Act (1960), which was ratified by Law 2417/1996 (Government Gazette A’ 139/03.07.1996). The same applies to the designation of countries.

However, the renewal and registration of changes to existing designations made under the Hague Act (1960) up to December 31, 2024, will continue to be processed until the expiry of the internationally registered industrial design.
