Announcement – Response to Publications Regarding the Trademark “Turkaegean”
In relation to the publications regarding the registration of the “Turkaegean” trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and to avoid any confusion or misinformation among the public, we would like to inform you of the following:
The application for the registration of the trademark was filed by a Turkish entity, the Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency, before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on July 16, 2021, and was registered on December 15, 2021.
The responsibility for maintaining the Trademark Register for Greece was transferred to the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) on May 16, 2022, by Joint Ministerial Decision No. 48793/13.05.2022, concerning the “Commencement of the provisions of Chapter C of Part B of Law 4796/2021 ‘Regulations for the Transfer of Trademark Responsibilities to the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation – Transfer of the Trademark Register and Archive'”.
With the assumption of all responsibilities and full accountability for Trademarks, the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation has implemented the provisions and regulations set out for the service unification and transfer of all trademark responsibilities to itself, aiming to:
- Contribute to the institutional harmonization of our country with the practices of other countries.
- Establish a unified national authority that will facilitate the formation of a consistent national policy as the sole body for the registration and protection of all intellectual property rights in Greece (trademarks, patents, industrial designs).
- Simplify the procedures for completing programs, actions, and projects of the Trademarks Directorate of the Ministry of Development and Investments, offering high-quality services.
- Further promote Innovation and Entrepreneurship through the protection of a business’s value in our country.
- Contribute to the development of our National Economy.
