Diplomatic Conference on the Adoption of an International Legal Instrument for Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources, and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Genetic Resources, Geneva, May 13-24, 2024
A Diplomatic Conference will be held at the headquarters of the (World Intellectual Property Organization-WIPO)in Geneva from May 13-24, 2024, for the adoption of an international legal instrument on Intellectual Property, genetic resources, and traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources.
The focus of the negotiations is the establishment of a requirement to disclose information related to genetic resources or traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources during the filing of a patent application before the relevant Industrial Property authority, under specific conditions.
The mandatory disclosure aims to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and quality of the patent granting system, preventing the issuance of patents for inventions that are not novel or do not involve an inventive step with respect to genetic resources and/or traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources.
The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) participates in the Diplomatic Conference with a delegation consisting of Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, Director General of OBI, Ms. Myrto Lamprou-Mauer, Lawyer and Head of the International Affairs Department, and Ms. Konstantina Lydaki, Lawyer.
