New Highs Recorded for Patent Applications and Trademark Filings in Greece in 2023
In 2023, Greece saw significant growth in the number of patent applications and trademark filings, maintaining a steady upward trend observed in recent years. The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) recorded 1,084 patent applications and 6,207 trademark filings, demonstrating the increasing importance of intellectual property (IP) in Greece’s innovation landscape.
The closing of the year highlighted, both quantitatively and qualitatively, how the concentration of industrial property under the same roof in Greece has contributed to the substantial rise in all forms of protection titles offered by OBI.
Notably, patent filings from Greek Universities and Research Centers have continued to show an upward trend over the past five years. Equally significant is the increase in patent filings from Greek companies or consortia of Greek companies.
