The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), in collaboration with the Board of Appeals of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), successfully organised an event titled “Seminar for IP Practitioners” as part of the bilateral cooperation between the offices.
The event took place on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the OBI premises in Marousi and aimed to inform the attendees about recent jurisprudential developments and the contribution of the Appeals Department in the field of trademarks.
Presentations were made by EUIPO experts with in-depth knowledge on the subject. Specifically, Mr. Gordon Humphreys, Acting President of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, Mrs. Maria Bra, Board of Appeals member since 2003, who assumed the Presidency of the First Board of Appeal in October 2023, Mrs. Nina Korjus, President of the Fourth Board of Appeal of EUIPO, and Mrs. Janka Budovičová, Director of Cooperation Programs at the EUIPO Boards of Appeal.
Representatives from the academic community also attended, including Professor Lia Athanasiou from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Associate Professor Christos Chrysanthis from the same Law School, who gave a presentation on “Intellectual Property and Public Interest.”
The audience included judges, postgraduate students, and practicing lawyers who were informed about key issues in the trademark sector and engaged in an open dialogue with the speakers for further in-depth discussions. The event was also honored by the presence of the President of the Athens Bar Association, Dimitris Vervesos.
On behalf of OBI, speeches were delivered by Mrs. Despina Spanou, Director of Legal Affairs, OBI, and Mrs. Matina Chrysochoidou, Director of Trademarks at OBI.
The event was coordinated by Mrs. Theodora Simitsi, Deputy Director General of OBI.
