Visit of the Minister of Development and Investments, Eleni Lourí-Dendrínou, to the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) in Marousi.

The Minister of Development and Investments, Mrs. Eleni Lourí-Dendrínou, visited the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) and was briefed by the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Dimitris Chronis, the General Director, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, and specialized staff members of the organisation about the services it provides, its overall progress, and its prospects.

The OBI management highlighted the record of 1,000 patent applications submitted in 2022 and presented the reforms that were implemented, with a focus on the unification of Industrial Property under one roof in Greece, including the assignment of the operation of the Trademark Service to the Organisation, with its own building in central Athens.

As noted by the OBI management, “With this landmark reform, Greece has managed to follow the example of other EU countries by establishing a unified national body for Intellectual Property on the global map. In combination with the integration of the Trademark Registry with the General Commercial Registry, an additional stage in the process of establishing new businesses has been removed, making it simpler and faster.”

At the same time, the management presented initiatives aimed at fully digitizing its services and linking innovation with economic production, benefiting inventors, trademark holders, and creators.

The Minister of Development and Investments emphasized in her statements:

“The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, as explained by its management and staff, is evolving into a modern organisation that operates according to European and international standards to effectively meet the evolving needs of Greek society and the national economy. Intellectual Property is becoming increasingly significant in the global economic landscape, and the need for its effective protection is becoming an essential priority for every modern state.”

For his part, the General Director of OBI stated in his statement:

“The Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, as the national body responsible for the registration of patents and trademarks, the protection of industrial designs, and the provision of technological information, is continuously improving its services, ensuring the intangible assets of individuals and entrepreneurs.”
