The Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of an International Treaty on Design Law began on November 11, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization-WIPO.
The negotiations focus on harmonizing the process of filing design registration applications before national and regional industrial property authorities. This harmonization addresses the required elements of an application, the representation of designs, the number of designs in a single application, and the conditions for granting a filing date. Additionally, it regulates the disclosure of designs, their publication, and provides measures for restoring rights to prevent their loss. The goal of this harmonization is to simplify and reduce the cost of the filing process for designers and businesses.
A delegation from the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) is participating in the Diplomatic Conference, consisting of Mrs. Myrto Lamprou-Mauer, Lawyer and Head of the International Affairs Department, and Mrs. Konstantina Lydaki, Lawyer.
The Diplomatic Conference will last until November 23, 2024.
